WATER POLO SCHOOL
UiTan water polo school is a course-based opportunity for children to get to know water polo through play, games and swimming technique practice. Water polo schools are organized in autumn and spring. Teaching in the water polo school starts from the basics, and the threshold for participation is low – being able to swim 25 m continuously is sufficient. In the water polo school, children play games, learn ball-handling skills, swimming techniques and play beginner-level water polo. The primary target group for the water polo school is girls and boys aged 7–9.
After completing the water polo school, it is possible to continue training in a practice group. As experience grows, the aim is to form age-group teams from the children, which will participate in tournaments for water polo school players and, in time, in junior water polo leagues.

BEGINNER GROUP
Welcome to artistic swimming! This versatile sport combines swimming, gymnastics and dance, and offers an excellent opportunity to try new tricks and challenge oneself – especially if swimming back and forth in lanes feels boring. The sport is suitable for all ages, and those who train with clear goals have the opportunity to compete not only in club and Finnish Championship competitions, but also internationally.
Training time: Sundays from 17:30 to 18:30 in the main pool of Tampere Swimming Centre. For the children’s and boys’ beginner courses there is a 30-minute dryland session at the poolside before going into the water.
The children’s group is intended for all swimmers aged 7–13 (minimum swimming requirement 50 m; feet do not reach the bottom in the pool and exercises are also done with the head under water).
The youth and adults group is open to anyone interested in the sport from the age of 14 upwards (same requirements as for the children’s group).
The boys’ beginner course welcomes all boys aged 7–13 (same requirements as for the children’s group). The course is organised in cooperation with the Finnish Swimming Association. The length and fee of the course differ from the other two groups, so please contact the head coach regarding registration.
In the group, participants learn the basic movements of artistic swimming and practise performing as a team. With the coach’s recommendation, it is possible to move from these groups to competitive squads. An information letter will be sent by email to those registered before the first training session.
Equipment for artistic swimmers: swimsuit, goggles, swim cap, nose clip, water bottle. For children, it is a good idea to attach the nose clip to the goggles with a piece of string or elastic so that it does not fall to the bottom of the deep pool during training. Remember the access wristband (distributed at the first training session), as it is required to enter the training.
The group is led by head coach for artistic swimming, Teea Pospiech (taitouinti@uita.fi, tel. 0445567995), and the coaches also include Peppi Salonen, Kerttu Korsu and Silva Sormunen. The head coach is the primary contact person for all matters concerning the group.
